Looking At The Benefits Of Fat Loss
Looking better and fitting into smaller clothes is one motivation for fat loss. But it isn’t the most important. There are many heath reasons to lose weight that are more important.
The top killer in America is heart disease. This causes strokes and heart attacks. One related issue is high blood pressure. People who are overweight tend to have both of these problems. Higher blood pressure makes the heart work harder. Even small reductions in blood pressure will improve overall health.
Additionally, levels of triglycerides (fat in the blood) are higher with heavier people. The so-called ’good cholesterol’ is lower and the ’bad cholesterol’ is higher. This leads to clogged arteries and poor blood flow. This not only raises the risk of and heart attacks, but also leads to bad circulation.
Bad circulation means less oxygen reaching all the body’s cells, including the brain. This means less utilization of the mind. It can affect moods, sleeping and the ability to concentrate.
Due to the way the body breaks down food, overweight folks are more likely to develop diabetes. A high blood sugar level is dangerous. Obesity has been shown to increase sugar levels.
There has also been an association between excess fat and increase in certain cancers, mainly kidney, prostate, and colon cancer. Overweight woman are at higher risk for postmenstrual breast cancer as well.
Losing fat also creates a good cycle. We all know that bad health habits lead to bad health, which in turn tends to lead to more bad health habits. But the flip side is also true. As you drop a few pounds and health improves, you will find it easier to do healthful things, like exercising. More exercising, of course, leads to further improvements in health. Then, you can exercise even more’. I think you get the picture.
And as for wanting to look good and fit into smaller sizes- that is a good benefit too! When you feel better about how you look, you will be more positive and have higher self esteem. Healthier attitudes lead to improved health too. So make today the day you begin improving how you feel. Start exercising; even something as basic as walking will help. Do not overdo it at first. You may get burned out, especially if the results are slow. Slow results are more likely to last, so don’ worry!
Once you see a little fat loss you will be motivated to continue. Take it at your own pace and reward yourself with non-food treats. Like a new pair of jeans once you can fit into a new size. Good luck!
